The electronic car identification system detects vehicles or individual cars using the electromagnetic induction principle.

The system comprises:

• A passive transponder fitted to the underside of the vehicle for transmission of the vehicle data

• A trackside antenna (reading loop)

• A transponder reader on every track loop, which uses a carrier frequency of 125 kHz
