Manila/Philippines

BBR Verkehrstechnik GmbH from Braunschweig has shown the aspired achievement: The first construction stage in the Turkish town of Bursa was successfully commissioned in December 2010. Further construction stages in Turkey and the conjoint commissioning of the installation work in the Philippine capital Manila are planned. The intention of our cooperation is a dependable project handling and process abroad. Railtrade, a global operating service provider in the railway sector, has acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience in the international market and BBR Verkehrstechnik supplies not only the required proven stationary monitoring and safety systems but also the vehicle equipment and dynamic passenger information systems.

The light railway system in Bursa shall receive two extension tracks with an additional length of 8 km. This expansion project allows fast commuting to and from new residential areas including the University of Bursa. The works on construction stage two, namely the extension of 3.5 km tracks to Uludag University, have already begun and will be completed in the summer of 2011. In the third construction phase the North Line will be extended by two further stations connecting the modern shopping centre Korupark with the town centre. At the same time as the commissioning date of this section, the depot expansion will be completed to obtain the needed capacity for the maintenance of the additional trains.

Railtrade was able to provide ‘state of the art’ turnkey and ‘open design’ system solutions to the client BursaRay. New telecommunication systems and a new digital trunked radio system (TETRA) have been delivered. For reliable data transmission, a fully redundant Open Transport Network (OTN) system with a 2.5 Gb/s data transmission rate and dual fibre optic links between nodes has been designed and mounted. The existing system was integrated and updated accordingly. A modern IP based public address (PA) system has been introduced and the stations were equipped with a central master clock system as well as escalators. Railtrade can count on BBR Verkehrstechnik for the fields of interlocking systems, signaling devices and on-board vehicle equipment for train protection and data transmission purposes. The newly implemented BBR signaling systems could be integrated in the existing system without any difficulties and were successfully approved.

In 2011, the first conjoint project of the TEWET Group and BBR will commission in the Philippine capital Manila. The existing metro line of the LRT1 will be extended by three stations to a length of approx. 5 km. Railtrade, responsible again here for the general project management, delivers four BBR SIL.VIA interlocking units controlled by central operator consoles. Furthermore, an Automated Train Protection System BBR PZB222 will be implemented on trackside. As an interim solution prior to the completion of the works, two BBR Electrically Locally Operated Points (EOW) according to Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2) have been mounted in the track sections Balintawak-Roosevelt and Roosevelt-Common Station, respectively, to enable a turn-over back to Monumento before the whole section is to be completed. In addition, an automatic train protection system PZB222 working independently from traction signals has been installed on site. This enables the immediate access of a large part of the track to the public prior the completion of the entire works.

The installed technology had to be accurately adapted to an existing interlocking system to guarantee both safe signaling operation and smooth interaction between the train control and monitoring systems of adjacent track sections. This was accomplished without any changes to the existing interlocking system. Therefore, appropriate interface connections along with redundant vacancy detection systems at the boundary between old and new track sections have been implemented. Experience, know-how, modern technological competence and transparent service are decisive factors for the success of our cooperation in the fields of signaling between Railtrade, further members of the Tewet Group and BBR Verkehrstechnik- who are competent partners at your side during the planning, design, implementation and supervision of your project. Based on these premises, our companies can develop first hand turnkey solutions for our customers.
